KILLED BY VEHICLE. (Pun Peess Association.! AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. . Robert Book, an inmate of the Costley Home, injured by a vehicle on Sep-* tember 13, has died in the hospital. DROWNED AT PUKEKOHE. Vincent Maloney, aged IS, was drowned at the Maraka beach, near Pukekohe", yesterday. A party of young men went to the beach for fishing, and Maloney and John Best went in to bathe. Maloney got into the channel, which is narrow but Sft deep. He was a poor swimmer, and was soon in difficulties. Best went to his assistance, but was pulled under, having great difficulty in saving himself: Maloney’s body was found an hour later. He was the'son of a widow living at Puni. A NARROW ESCAPE. Dec. 21. A seaman named Higgins narrowly escaped losing his life while assisting to berth the Wanaka to-day. He became entangled in mooring lines, and was carried round the barrel of the winch, which, stopped just in time to prevent a fatality. Higgins had two ribs broken and his shoulder badly hurt. BATHING FATALITY. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 21. Sebastian Ott, aged 20 years£ was drowned while bathing in the Manawatu river at Foxton yesterday. His mother resides at Wellington. CHILD DROWNED. STRATFORD, Dec. 21. A three-year-old son of R. Richards, of Toko, was drowned yesterday afternoon through falling into a creek near his parents’ residence. KNOCKED DOWN BY TRAMCAR. WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. Robert Henry Parker, an elderly; man, was knocked down by a tramcar in Manner’s street about 10.20 on Saturday night. He -was removed to the hospital in an uuconscious condition, the base of his skull being fractured. He was employed as cook in a boarding house in the city. He is still insensible. ; AN APOPLETIC SEIZURE. NELSON, Dec. 21. Mr E. F. Burrell, an old resident of Taiiuna, had an apopletic seizure while driving in the town on Saturday, and; fell out of his trap, being picked us>: dead.
