The first day of the Manawatu races was held to-day in fine weather. There was a good attendance, and £6494 was put through the machine, against £7930 last year. INQUIRIES INTO ALLEGED INCONSISTENT RUNNING. PALMERSTON N., Dee. 23. An exhaustive inquiry was held tonight* as to the running of Equitas,. Oliver up, in the Summer Handicap. The stewards were unable to decide tonight, and adjourned the inquiry till Monday morning on the course, with the object of permitting the persons connected therewith supplying further necessary evidence regarding speculation.
