At the Headmasters’ Conference Dr Gray, of Bradfield, proposed a resolution welcoming the deyelopinent of the Public Schools League for land settlement in the overseas dominions.- In recommending the governing bodies of .schools to make annual grants to enable the establishment of a central office in London, he referred to the American immigration invasion of Canada and asked would the Union Jack or .Stars and Stripes 'fly on the Govern.ment offices in '. Ottawa fifty . years whence? Parents had previously sent their failures to the colonies. He attributed the failure of public school boys in the colonies to lack of purpose, adaptability, and self-reliance. Australians and Canadians abominated : the swagger.
