MAN FOUND DEAD
At 2.45 p.m. on Christmas Day, Sergeant Hutton received a message from Motu stating that a man framed Hill, a painter, of Opotiki, had been found lying dead on the roadside about threequarters. of a mile past Motu. The body had apparently been there for the past two or three days. The deceased was last seen alive by the mailman on Tuesday, and bore the appearance of having recently been drinking. Owing to the lack of telephonic communication for Te Karaka. Sergeant Hutton had to despatch a mounted constable to inform Constable Doyle at Te Karaka. Constable Doyle left at 3 a.m. yesterday, and if he can get through will make arrangements for an inquest to he held.
DEATH FROM BLOOD POISONING. i Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Dec. 24. John Beale, aged six years, died in the hospital from blood poisoning. It was first attributed to poison from the tendrils of a jelly fish supposed to have been got while bathing, but the hospital authorities are doubtful as to this being the cause of the poisoning. MAORI WOMAN KILLED. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dee. 24. A maori woman known as Mrs. John Graham, was killed near Opuna'ke last night through" of a. dray in which she was.riding. The other occupants jumped, ejear. MAN DROWNED AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Deo. 26. A man named Crawford, a member of the crew of the yacht Patronus, was drowned on Friday night, apparently having fallen overboard while the rest were below. A cry, of distress -was heard. When the others came on deck Crawford was seen momentarily ; -but sank before assistance could be given.

A man named Alexander Stewart, 79 years of age, committed suicide by shooting himself this - morning. 1 The deceased, who resided /near Anderson’s Bay, appeared in his hkual health when lie rose, but. after having breakfast he went to some trees surrounding the house,-and resting a-gun on the fork of a tree apparently pulled the trigger, the charge . going through hisheart. The deceased had been-complaining of: pains in his back for some time.
