Owing to the severe floods the Kitchener camp has been postponed. Under the present arrangements, Lord Kitchener leaves Melbourne for New Zealand on February 12th.
BUSH FIRES IN VICTORIA
MELBOURNE, Dec. 28
Bush fires are raging in Kilmore district. Burnt-out farmers’ families are flocking into the townships. GASOMETER BLOWN OVER. SYDNEY, Dec. 28. During a cyclonic gale in the Blue Mountains, the gasometer at Katoomba overturned, plunging Katoomba and Leura in darkness. PROSPEROUS SYDNEY. Last year’s building trade in Sydney was the best on record. The aggregate cost of new buildings was £5,819,000.
RAINS IN QUEENSLAND.
BRISBANE, Dec. 27
Phenomenal rains fell along the North railway, there-being a Tecord of 20 inches at Monkland.
