THE STONEWALL.
A MINISTERIAL VIEW
11*Kit Piikns Association. | CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 30
The Hon. T. Mackenzie arrived from north and proceeded by the first express for the south. Referring to Reeves vote, lie said: “Approaching the question as a business mail, and stripping it of all personal feeling regarding Mr, Reeves, I cannot understand level-licaded people coming to any other conclusion but that it is desirable te have the advice of the man who for twelve years lias been associated with the country’ financial •operations. Mr. Hall-Jones was new to the office, and Mr. Walter Ivennaway, the right-hand man of the Agents-General and Commissioners during the last 30 years, was ahotit to retire. Surely, under these circumstances, it was wise to secure the benefit of Mr. Reeves’ experience. When I went to London, representing the New Zealand Fanners’ Co-operative Association, I would have been very glad to have had the advice of my predecessor in office, just as the Wellington Harbor Board retains the services as adviser of its late engineer, Mr. Ferguson. The vote was rejected once because of personal antipathy to Mr. Reeves on the part of some members, hut when the position was explained the opinions changed utterly. It is absurd te suggest that by giving the opportunity for reconsideration the Government was throttling the deliberate judgment of Parliament.”
