A man named Jame B Steele, employed in a quarry at Hornby, was caught in the, belting of some stonecrushing machinery, and was whirled round by the shafting. When he was picked up it was found that he had sustained severe injuries, several of his rigs being broken, He vfas conveyed to the hospital as quickly as possible, but died soon aft«r admission.

James Mawson. 20 years of age/ shot in the thigh accidentally, jrwell, to-day, and Avas brought tie-, the hospital by Dr. Nathan, in his/, mow car. ' Mawson Avas standing; near a friend avlio Avas endeaA'oring/ to discharge a rifle, but the rifle /had jammed, and Avas eventually l;aid down. About '9.30 a.m. yesterday Thomas Marson, a farm laborer, employed at Spreydon, was on a haystack stacking hay with a patent hsy—lifter, when the anchor which pole down gave way. The pole immediately flew, up, and hit Marson 'bn the back of the head, killing him/instantaneously. At the inquest, the/ evidence of William Woods, who was/ working with Marson (who was a manried man), showed that the anchor had' become loosened by re-; cent rain ,ancy the pole had sprung up with fprce.
