POLITICAL NOTES.

— END O*E THE LEGISLATIVE , BATTLE. • , ... ■;•/■■■. (Special to V : " The legislative battle eh'q&di,,shortly, after 10 p.m. yesterday, and legislators,' hurried to. quit the precincts o%Parg liamentary Buildings. The closing was calm after the storm and tli&cjt was not even the semblance of a death, straggle.. AH the vigor had been taken “out of members by the, -time of the collapse of the stonewall. Just before 3 p.m., when the Opposition, having made a big fight for ,a principle and having received, an assurance that the Reeves appointment would be kept clear for further consideration in-June, and that nothing definite would be done until Parliament met again, gave up the ghost and let the remainder of the supplementary estimates pass with comparatively little criticism. A “washed out crew”, the members appeared to be as they swarmed into the lobbies for the last time. The session lias been a most remarkable one in the matter of time wasted at one period and a violent rush at another. Nearly all the legislation (and it is great in bulk) was put through within the last three weeks and much of it will probably crop up at an early date for amendment. However, it has got on the Statute Book, and that is a matter upon which the Premier doubtless felicitates himself. The Opposition considers it has done good work by its criticisms and the protests it lias entered against the Government’s legislative methods so that all parties leave in a happy frame of mind on the score of duty done. . •
