THE LATE COLONEL GORTON
IMPOSING' {FUNERAL CEREMONY

The funeral of Colonel Gorton attracted a large attendance from all the west coast to Bulls to-day. There were wreaths and messages of condolence from all over New Zealand, including one from His Excellency the Governor, and one from the Prime Minister. His Excellency was represented by Captain Hardy, and the Ministry by 1 the senior Minister, the Hon. Jas. Carroll. A detachment of the permanent artillery, under Major Hume,, formed a guard of honor, and bore the body on a gun carriage to the cemetery at Greatford. The Feilding Rifles, the Rangitikei Royals (the oldest corps in New Zealand), and other cori>s partlcipated, headed by the Marton Ba'nd, Inlaying the “Dead March.” A long line of carriages, motors and horsemen extended practically the whole of the two miles from the house to Greatford cemetery. ‘
