THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. [Per Pues9 Association.! AUCKLAND, Jan. 5. At the tennis tournament, in the ladies’ champion doubles, Misses Powdrell and Gray heat Misses Nunnelly and Braithwaite, 6 —2, 9—6. The Auckland Lawn Tennis Tournament was continued to-day. The men’s singles championship was finished, J. Peacocke beating H. Brown after a good struggle 6—l, 3 —6, 4—6, 6 —2, 6—3. Misses Powdrell and Gray won the Ladies’ Doubles l Championship in straight sets from Misses Nunnelly and Braithwaite 6—2, 9 —7. In the semi-finals of tho combined championship Miss Nunnelly and Wilding beat Miss R. Wellwood and 11. Brown 6—o, 6 —2 ; Miss Williams and Blair beat Miss Braithwaite and Peacocke 6—2, 10—8. The final of the Ladies’ Handicap was won by Miss Williams, who beat Miss Batham 6—4, 6—4. The filial of tne Men’s Handicap Doubles was won by Grigson and Allan Brown, and the filial of the Ladies’ Handicap Doubles by Misses Gorrie and Neville.
