THE SCHOOL SYLLABUS
t J*jilt Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. o. The school syllabus came under reyj'ew at the Educational Institute Conference to-day. Mr McKenzie (Auckland) said the teachers m his district felt that the syllabus waa too indefinite. It gave too much power to msnectors, who were apt to bully some of the younger teachers in smaller schools. This’ allegation was deprecated by Mr Valentino (South Canterbury). Ulti. matelv a committee was appointed to draw up a report on the syllabus. A motion was carried that any extension of the school day beyond five hours is inexpedient. . The Education Conference carried motions that inspectors should be under the control of the Education Department; that the age of exemption be 15, not 14; and that the standard of exemption ho the sixth standard.
