CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 6. lesterday evening a strongly-built young man was noticed to be behaving in a peculiar manner on the platform of the Lyttelton railway station, and was arrested. He went quietlv to the police station, but when inside he threw himself on the floor and struggled vigorously with a constable. The constable pulled the revolver a wav, and with the assistance of another constable, got it away from the prisoner. The weapon was loaded in five .chambers, and apparently the man’s life was saved by_tlie handkerchief, a fold of which had become jammed under the hammer.
