TRAAIAYAY COLLISION IN CHRISTCHURCH.
Two ladies and two gentlemen, who were riding along the tramway track between Breeze’s road and New Brigli. ton Bridge, last evening had a narrowescape from death, and* two of their horses were killed by colliding with the 10.10 tram from town. It appears that the men were horse trainers, and riding young, restive animals, while their lady companions were on quieter animals. They saw the tramcar approaching, but the track at that point is a right-ot-' way- of the Board, and had no pro vis-. ion other than the rail bedding for a roadway. The riders were compelled to turn into the fence to avoid the car. j The horses became alarmed at the sound of the tram and reared. One backed right in front of the tram, and was killed, whilst another, for which the owner had refused £SO that j had its leg broken clean off, and ran on three legs some distance, when it was : shot by a resident. One of the ladies was thrown in front of the car. but all the riders got off with severe shakings. The horses killed were both young andi l valuable-animals. -i 1 ■ j-i i " .'li' i 'ij ■ . •r * t'"T -•■I! 1 n'l -73 C rr'rtlwkkifSiv l
