TO-DAY’S MATCHES .

' After the usual holiday interval Cup matches in the Saturday competition will be resumed this afternoon,_ United and Wanderers meeting at Victoria Domain, and Y.M.O.A. playing Taruheru on the ground of the latter. 'A great deal of interest attaches to the second meeting this season of those old rivals, United and Wanderers. The match in the first round between these teams furnished a very keen and close fight/ and was only won, after a hard struggle by Wanderers, by the narrow margin of eight runs on the first innings. So far this season Wanderers have won every match they have played, and are leading for the competition with 10 championship points. United, on the other hand, have suffered defeat twice, but by winning two matches outright have six points to their credit. A win for Wanderers in the match commencing to-day will practically assure them of again annexing the championship. A win for United, however, will place them close up to the leaders, and render the remaining matches brimful of interest.

United to-day will he without the services of O. IT. Olsen and E. W. Grenfell, who arc absent in the South, on holiday leave. However, H. B. Whyte will be available regularly for the'club for the remainder of the season, and as L. W. Manning will also take the field, the team will he about the strongest that has yet played this season for the old club. The following is the United team to paly against Wanderers this afternoon: —Darnell, .Farrell, Gallop, Gibson, Hallamoro, Jeffreys, Lang (2), Manning, Thodey, Scroggie, and Whyte. Li. McMahon, the Wanderers’captain, was coi/TTnifid to liis bed through indisposition' early in the week, but has fortunately recovered, and his all-round ability will be available for his side today. McMahon’s generalship is worth a great deal, and it would have been a severe handicap had he been unable to take the field in the match commencing to-day. The Wanderers .have a strong all-round combination, and the match should be well worth seeing. Y.M.C.A. will have some difficulty in getting a full side out to Taruheru today as several of their prominent players are away for their holidays, While Ellison has left the district. However, with such a big membership the club will doubtless raise a contingent to hold the fort until the return of their regular members. Taruheru will be without the services of their captain, E. Sharpies, to-day, but they should notch a victory, as they have a very fine side. Taruheru may be expected to give their opponents -tougher games for the remainder of the season than they have thus far done this' t&SStffl'.. •The following will represent United Juniors in their match with Wanderers Juniors at the Victoria Domain to-day: Doyle, Rigby, Button, Bentley, Sissons, Clarke, Porter, Huston, Chirnside, Payne, Ronche. Emergencies: Hill, Chrisp and Findlay.
