NAPIER HARBOR BOARD.
CHAIRMAN’S ANNUAL REPORT
i Feu Press Association.! NAPIER. Jan. 12. The annual report of the Chairman of the Harbor Board shows that the exports for the year just- closed exceeded those of any previous year, but that the imports, principally owing to vessels being unable to berth fl t the breakwater during a large portion of the year owing to the extension of the wharf, show a falling off. The capital value of the harbor rating district increased from £7,908,734 in 1900 to £13,944,052 in 1909. The breakwater has been extended 24 feet during the year, and the blocks laid on to the foundation S4ft. further, requiring only a top-capping to complete the total length. The finished structure will be 2530 feet. The Chairman pointed out that- now the Government have acquired the Manawatu line the differential tariff which formerly prevailed will be abolished, and this will most likely lead to a considerable increase in local shipping.
