THE CHEESE MARKET.
SHORTAGE IN CANADIAN STOCKS
[Per Press Association.! INVERCARGILL, Jan. 13. Messrs Henderson and Co., who act as Southland agents for Messrs Weddel and Co., of London, received a cable on Monday stating, “It is reported .that Canadian stocks' of cheese are 5,000 tons short of the estimated quantity, and that cheese prices are likely to advance.” r,
During the past week there has been a stir in the cheese market and several factories have sold the balance of their seasons output at 5Jd per lb. f.o.b. Bluff. This is no doubt owing to some buyers having anticipated a rest in values.
The bulk of the Southland factories are 1 still consigning and will doubtless reap the benefit of the improved conditions of the London market.
