COMMERCIAL.
MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There was a fair attendance at the Matawhero Stock Saleyands yesterday, when the weekly sales for this year wore commenced. The yarding of both sheep and cattle was largo, but the bidding was slow, and sales were largely in buyers' favor. SHEEP. Altogether there were over 6000 sheep offered, and although the bidding was slow, a good number were sold under the hammer, and a number of lots that were passed in were subsequently disposed of, one lot in P ai " ticular being a) line of 1085 4 and 6 tooth wethers. The bidding went to 10s 3d, the reserve being 10s 6d, and the. auctioneer stated they would oo taken on to Hastings; later, however, 10s 4d was accepted. There was not much competition for fat sheep, a number of lots being passed in. bales were:—27 fat lambs 8s 4d, 15 ewes Bs, 7 prime ewes 8s 9d. Store sheep sold better, the principal sales being 132 2-tooth ewes 8s 6d, 200 lambs 6s, o2 lambs 3s Bd, 261) 2-tootli wethers lus Id, 333 2-tooth ewes 10s 2d, 318 ewes and 147 l'arnbs 7s Id, 451 4-tootli wethers 10s 2d, 58 lambs os Bd, 3 wethers 5 S 6d, 221 2-tooth ewes 7s 7d, 204 4-tooth wethers 10s; 6d, 121 early shorn 4-tooth ,vet hers 10s 6d, 100 4-tooth wethers 10s, 84 2 and 4-tooth wethers 9s 10d, 112 ewes 7s 7d, 89 ewes os, 97 ewes 6s 9d, 37 2-tooth ewes 9s, 16 2-tooth ewes and wethers 6s IOcI, 6 Lincoln-Leicester rams ss, 81 2,4, 6, and 8 tooth ewes 7s lid. 100 lambs 6s 6d, 72 4,6, and i.f.m. ewes 9s Sd, 105 f.m ewes 4s 6d, 52 ewes and 33 rams 5s 9d. CATTLE. There was a. fair demand for fat cattle, sales: being quickie effected, but the demand for store cattle was extremely slow. PIGS. • There was a small entry of pigs and sales were quickly got. The prices were: 5 weaners 13s, 6 do 15s, 3 porkers 355, 1 sow £l, 2 porkers los. CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES. [Pint Fresh Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 13. The third wool sale of the season was held to-day. There was a full attendance of buyers for ‘British, Continental, American, and colonial manufacturers. In all 22,793 bales were offered, compared with 29,096 at the corresponding sale last year. The bulk of the wool was in excellent condition considering the period of the year. prices realised were higher than realised at the earlier sales. For all descriptions there was brisk competition, Bradford and Continental buyers being particularly keen.
