Lengthy Imprisonments.

A' few days ago there appeared in a newspaper an account of an Irishman (employed in excavating) who turned over a large piece of clay. Upon striking it with his spade there jumped out of the clay a large toad, which .appeared to be a freak, for the skin had grown over its eyes, making it completely blind. Strange a.g this story may appear, upon referring to the “London Times” of 1868, there appears a stranger one still, for we find an account of a, lizard being discovered in a bar of icon—“ Strange Discovery.—On Friday a piece of iron ore was dug out of the bottopi of the shaft, iwhich is 74ft deep, at Mr. Brown’s iron mine at Brixliam, Devon, and upon breaking it there crept out a lizard, six inches long, the under part of which was yellow, and the back of a brownish color.” So ends the account, which is decidedly brief, and leave s ns in a similar position to Oliver Twist.
