BIIITLES, THE CYCLIST. United Tbebb Association —Copyright SYDNEY, Jan. 15. Birtles, the well-known cyclist, starts in a fortnight to cycle right round Australia, a distance of 12,000 miles. RETIREMENT OF NAVIGATION SUPERINTENDENT. Captain Newton, Superintendent of Navigation, has retired owing to illhealth. REDUCTION OF LICENSES IN VICTORIA, MELBOURNE, Jan. 15. During the two and a half years that the Licenses Reduction Board has been in operation 311 hotels have been dclicensed, involving the payment of over £140,000 compensation.
