BOWLINS.

GISBORNE-CLUB. There was a fairly good muster of players on the green of .the Gisborne Bowling Club on Saturday. The following were the results of the principal games played : Gosnell, Brown, Harris, Pettigrew (skip) 24, beat Maher, J. F. Pett-ie, Davies, Corson (skip) 10. Bruce, Bullock, Ifwerson (skip) 23, heat Hodgson, Dodd, Bright (skip) 16. TURANGANUI CLUB. There was a considerable muster of Mayers on the green of the Turanganui Club on Saturday afternoon, and some enjoyable games were played. The result of the principal one was as follows :

Thelwall, Ratcliffe, MeWhirter, Williams (skip) 26, beat Paltridgc, Wootton, Benzie, Greig (skip) 9.

THE NORTHERN ASSOCIATION’S TOURNAMENT. CHURCHWARD (WELLINGTON) WINS RINK COMPETITION. fPiiii Pitrcss Association. l WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. The finish in the Northern Bowling Association club rinks was played on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance. Amongst those present were the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward), and the Hons. J. Carroll and J. A. Millar. The weather was fine, and the green very keen. The teams were: Grey Lynn—Al. Casey, Pascoe, V. Casey, and Baildon (skip): -Wellington —Mayer, Carroll, G; Brown, and Churchward (skip). V ellington scored one on the first head, and Grey Lynn two on the second, followed by two singles on the succeeding heads. Then each team scored a single alternately. At the 9th head Churchward with liis second bowl drew a beautiful shot, and Baildon deeming it impossible to alter the position in any way, drove, and made a dead head. Mayer, who played a fine game throughout as lead for Wellington, drew the shot with liis second. Brown improved Wellington’s position, as also did Churchward. ~The opposing skip tried to take out the jack, but failed by about an inch, and Wellington scored three, the figures being: Baildon 5, Churchward 7. A two and a one were then secured by the local club. On the 12th head splendid play, chiefly on the part of V. -Casey and Baildon, resulted in the northern team adding five to their total. Baildon 10, Churchward 10. Good drawing by Carroll and Brown increased Wellington’s score by three, and Grey Lynn responded with a four. On the loth head Churchward by bold hut successful play, drove out an opposing bowl and secured 5. Baildon 14, Churchward IS. Grey Lynn then notched o-ne, followed by a three for V ellington. Grey Lynn followed suit on the next head. Baildon 17, -Churchward 21. Skilful play -by Brown and Churchward increased tlieir score by two. On the- 20tli head Carroll out in two fine shots, and Churchward drew another shot. Baildon 17, 'Churchward 26.. With nine behind on. the last head Grey Lvnn gave up the contest. The Wellington Club thus wins the champion banner for the year.

The following are the results up to the semi-final: — Dali (Wellington) beat Smith (Thorndon) 25 —19, Bell (V ellington) beat Kilgour (Carlton) 22—21, Bell (Wellington) beat Pollock, substitute for James Brackenridge (Wellington) 21 —29, Wyllie (Newtown) beat Dali (Wellington) 23—18, Lock (Te Hiwi) beat- Williamson (Kelburne) 24 —11, Pickering (Palmerston North) heat Webb (Wellington) 21 —IS, John Brackenridge (Newtown) -beat Pascoe (Wellington) 20—12, Cagey (Grey Lynn) heat Williams (Napier) 20—19, .Pickering (Palmerston North) beat Bell (Wellington) 24—12, John Brackenridge (Newtown) beat Casey (Grey Lynn) 23—14, Prince (Newtown) beat Mason (P-ihama) 19—13, John Brackenridge (Newtown) beat Wyllie. (Petone) 23—15, Leek (Te Hi-wi) beat Prince (Newto-wn) 25 —18. Semi-final: Look (Te Hiwi) <a bye; Brackenridge (Newtown) beat Pickering (Palmerston North) 24—15. The final between Brackenridge and Lock will be played on Monday.

THE FINAL CONTEST. (Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, Jan. 15. The final for the Northern Bowling Association’s banner was played on the Wellington green this afternoon in perfect weather, between Baildon (Grey Lynn) and Churchward (Wellingt-no). The green was crowded with spectators, and an interesting game resulted in favor <J Ike latter rink by nine points, each rink putting up a five uuring the game. It may be interesting to note that Churchward was nearly iput out of any chance of being in the final when he met the Turanganui four during the week, for on that occasion he took ,out the opposing shot with his last bowl and won the game by a point. To-day he played a magnificent game, and thoroughly deserved his victory. The banner was hoisted on the .Wellington Club’s pavilion by the winning s kip, amidst cheer s for liis team and Grey Lynn, and fluttered gaily in the breeze.
