United Fniißß Association —CopymaiiT. MELBOURNE, Jan. 17. Lord Kitchener spent Saturday watching further operations at Seymour camp. A VICTIM OF SURF BATHING. SYDNEY, Jan.'l7. A man named Lyons was drowned while surf bathing at Newcastle. Two others had a narrow escape, being rescued by the Surf Club. Shortly afterwards sharks tore Lyons’ body to pieces in view cf the watching crowd. KETCH SUNK IN LARGO BAY. ADELAIDE, Jan. 17. The ketches Bronzewing and Napperby collided in Largo Bay. The Napperby sank, but the crew escaped. The Bronzewing was damaged. AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAPHS. (Received January 17, 11.5 p.m.) A MELBOURNE, Jan. 17. Owing to the growing public-disf satisfaction at the continual dislocation of the telegraphic service throughout the. Commonwealth, the Postmas-ter-General has called a conference of telegraphic heads of Departments to devise means of overcoming it. He declares his determination to put the service in proper order at whatever cost.
