LAND BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING
Mr T. N. Brodrick (Commissioner ox Crown Lands), Messrs Groom, Wright, and Akroyd were present yesterday at the quarterly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board. The- Board first- enquired into breaches of the conditions of lease by A. J. M. Si ms on, lessee of o.r.p. 298, Section I, Block XIII.. Motu S.D. (non-fulfil-ment of residential condition); T. J. Adair, lessee of o.r.p. 282, Section 1, Block IX.', Motu, S.D. (non-fulfilment of residential condition); John Turner, lessee of o.r.p. 258, Section 25, Block 11. Motu S.D. (non-fulfilment- of improvement condition); ivi. and C. Doyle, lessees of o.r.p. 283, Section 3, Block XIV., Motu S.D. (non-fulfilment of residential condition); and C. Morice, lessee of o.r.p. 285, Section 2, Block IX., Motu S.D., (non-fulfilment of residential condition). The Commissioner pointed out- that the land was unsurveyed when taken up, and considerable time elapsed before the survev was completed. The lessees requested an extension of time for four years, which in effect meant that the matter should be fixed from date of survey in place of date of selection. The Board resolved to approve of the four years’ extension in each case. . . ~ Mr George Smith wrote giving' the necessary assurance re preservation of bush in connection with the construction of a tram line through forest reserve, Ngatapa. W. Turner asked for an extension of time in which to complete purchase of l.i.n. 289, Sections 14 and 22, Block 11., Motu.-—Twelve months’ extension granted. In connection with Section 1, Block VII.. Mata, the Commissioner explained that this section, which comprised 185 acres surrounded bv Native land, had been twice previously let, but on each occasion had been surrendered because it was too small and poor. The section had been recently offered, but
withdrawn because the Natives required it. Settlers in the locality now wished to have the section put up again, .and he suggested that it should be sold at public auction at an upset cash price of £450, which would do awav with any feeling over the matter. —The Board decided to adopt the suggestion. _. r Application was lodged by .1. M. Hanson, for the purchase of freehold of l.i.p. sections 26 .mid 16. block 11., Motu. —Granted and Ranger Robertson apnointed valuer. Re application to sub-lease portion of l.i.p. section 43, block 16, Hangar-on, 63-V acres. W. L.. Butler to F. Monce. Mr Olvrisp appeared in support.— Granted. , „ , M. A. O’Sullivan a milled for transfer of half of his interest in r.l.s. section 4, block 10, Kanakanaia settlement, to his father, Patrick 0 Sullivan, —The Commissioner stated he had received a letter from applicant, explaining that he was in the midst of sheaving and was unable to _ attend.—To stand over till next meeting. J. G. Haase applied for transfer of l.i.p section 4, block IT. Willows settlement. —Mr Chrisp, who appealed with applicant, in support, said that the transferee. Baker, intended going in extensively for fruit growing. Granted. . .. ■ E. H. Taylor a "-died tor transfer ol cash selections 54 to 56, block XV., Hangaroa, to C. S. MacFarlane. Granted. _ . , Crown Lands Ranger Robertson forwarded 73 reports on holdings in Hangaroa, Tuahu and Opotiki survey districts. The Commissioner remarked that they \were fairly satisfactory. T’hcire were, however, a number of defaulters. —Notice to comply with, the conditions of lease to be sent- to all defaulters. , , Reports wore submitted by the Crown Lands' Ranger, Mr Robertson, respecting small grazing runs 42a, V aingaromia (Mr W. H.'Perry), and s.g.r. 58, Waingaromia (Mr Clias. Gray). Jhe Board, after considering the matter in committee, decided to grant renewals of both leases. .... An application was received ironi William Moore for section 5. block X., Ngatapa Settlement, without ballot, under Section 53 of the Land Act. Dll' S Williamson wrote in support ol the application, and stated that Moore had been a shepherd oh the Ngatapa station for upwards of 19 years, and would make a most desirable class of settler. Mr A. W. Rees appeared with the applicant, and after satisfying the Board that he was financially able to comply with the conditions laid down by the Act, it was decided to recommend to the Minister of Lands the granting of the annlication.
