The following is the Rev. D. O. .Bates’ summary and forecast: Cloudy and unsettled weather lias prevailed, and rain has fallen on the east coast of the South Island in moslt abundance. The barometer 'has risen in •the south, with easterly winds. There has been little movement in the _north. where 'westerly winds have prevailed. 'Present indications are for a temporary rise in the south, with northerly ■.winds, to be followed iby a further change in the barometer.. Humid and changeable weather is likely to continue. and a definite rise in the barometer is due to take place on Friclay rkght or Saturday morning.
