Mr. Walter Blackie. the well-known Taleri settlor, informed the “Wyndham Farmer” of the terrible pest the Canadian thistle has proved all over the Trier’ plain. Acres upon acres of the r : chest, soil, lie declares, can be seen smothered with this noxious weed, leaving the- land almost useless for cultivation. “My advice to the farmers of Wyndham. and df Southland generally.” said Mr. Blackie, “is to take time by the forelock, and be unceasing in their efforts to keep the Canadian thistle in check. It- can be done. I hove proved it myself, at Glasgow Farm, whore not a Canadian thistle is to be seen. Salt is the antidote —common agricultural salt. It is unwise to give it in large quantities, as a medium dose of calt lias been proved to be the most efficacious in treating with the pest ” Confidence is the greatest advertiser in the world. This in a large way has contributed to the success that has attended Grieve, jeweller. Try him for smallest repair, watches or jewellery, and ho will soon have your confidence.* It is gratifying to know that Mrs. Humphry Ward’s opposition to the suffrage movement does not prevent her from being an ardent supporter of women in municipal work. In a speech concerning the candidature of nine women in the borough of Kensington, she said that an average of two women on each borough council was the least representation that could be asked for.
