THE CASE AGAINST PETER
BOWLING. United Pmtss Association —Corruiant SYDNEY, Jan. 19. In connection with the hearing of the cases against Peter Bowling and others, >a newspaper reporter gave evidence that Mr. Bowling urged the men to restrain themselves and respect the law, and not to insult policemen. Some men are reported to be working at Mount Keira mine. Small quantities of coal are being sent out.
TRIAL OF STRIKE LEADERS ADJOURNED.
(Received January 20, 12.50 a.m.) SYDNEY. Jan. 19.
The hearing of the cases against Bowling and others was continued today. The case for the -Crown against Bowling has closed. The police gave evidence that Bowling had urged the miners to be orderly and not insult tli© police. Bowling, asking for an acquittal, pleaded that h© could be doing better work outside than taking up time in Court, and added that undoubtedly had the trial not delayed matters in connection with a settlement, there might have been peace now. The application for acquittal was refused. Bowling then secured an adjournment till Monday. ARRIVAL OF ENGLISH COAL. The steamer Tottenham brought the first cargo of English coal. After landing 3000 tons at Freemantle, she brought 2000 tons here. All the coal is for the Orient Company.
MORE TROUBLE WITH WHARF
LABORERS.
Fresh trouble has occurred among the wharf laborers, who declined to allow bunkering the Ocean -Steamship Co.’s steamer Jason from the collier Ularoo. About 300 ceased work.
