MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There, was a small attendance and a. poor &ale at the Matawhero, stock yards yesterday. Fat and store sheep veie in poor demand, tlio only department i>i which business tv as brisk being pigs. SHEEP. Over 4500 sheep were yarded, but the principal lots had to be passed in, no havers offering. Sales were: 6 fat wethers. 4s- 6d, 100 woolly lambs 5s 9d, 60 ewes 2s Id, 71 lambs 3s, 77 ewes 3s 9d, 67 lambs 3s 6d, 20 lambs ls 4d, 14 Lincoln rams f £2 2s. Eight Border Leicester ranis were passed in at 24gus. CATTLE. About 160 head were yarded, and sold fairly well. The prices were: 6 steers £2 13s. 4 fat cows £4 ss, 1 at £4 ls, 1 fat heifer £4 ss, 1 bull 325. 16 yearling heifers £2 10s, 1 empty cow £2 ss, 6 steers £3 17s, 8 yearling heifers 265, 8 heifers 3s. 6 yearling heifers £2 4s, 3 at £2 3s, and 4 at £2 18s.' PIGS. There was a small entry and a brisk demand, and sales resulted rapidly. Prices were: 8 at 15s 6d, 4 at 17s 6d, 1 at ISs, and 2 at 12s. TOP AND RECORD PRICES AT WOOL SALES. At the Dunedin wool sale on the 10th December, the top price, 14gd, was realised by Mr. T. L. Johnston, of Waipahi ; and Mr. J. A. Pannett, of Roxburgh, sold his wool at prices up to ]fid, which constituted a record for the Dominion for the whole clip. In both case.?, the sheep had been dipped in Little’rs Powder Dip. Mr. J. E. Simple in.son, who also usfrd Little’s Powder Dip, obtained top price, 15.(d, at Christchurch, on the 18th November, and this is the present record for New Zealand ; the previous record having been held by Mr. M. Bothell. who, using Little’s Fluid and Powder Dips combined, has taken top price at one of the season’s sales in Christchurch for five years in succession, including the sale of the 9th December last, when lie got 14gd. FROZEN MEAT. fPkk Pnrss Association. l NAPIER, Jan. 20. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company to-day cabled the following report on frozen meat: “Tlio lamb market- is weaker owing to heavy stocks, and values have declined by id - The beef market is slightly firmer. Today’s quotations are: Mutton, Napier, Wellington and North Island 3£d; lamb, first quality 4id, second quality .‘P : beef hindquarters 3id, forequarters 2jkl.” LONDON WOOL SALES. UNiT«ti> Pit tens Association—CoPYKtoiif, LONDON, Jan. 19. At the wool sales there was a largo selection of merinos, all sections of the trade operating. Amor can sorts maintained the November rates,. and topmaking sorts were 10 per cent higher. TALLOW SALES. At the tallow sales 657 casks were offered and 296 sold at prices showing 3d decline. HOME MARKETS. (Received Jan. 21, 1.5 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 20. Copper: Spot £6O 12s 6d, throe months’ £6l 10s.
Tin: Spot £147 15s. Wheat: Very dull; Australian sailers February offered l 40s, steamers 40s 6d. Opou wool 1 clip realised 12fd, and averaged lid.
