IMPERIAL POLITICS.

3111 ASQUITH AND THE LORDS. United Phess Association —Copyright. ■LONDON, J'ari. 20. Mr Will Crooks’ remarks concerning Australian tariff preference arose out of an interview ’ with the “Daily Chronicle.” During the elections many Nonconformist preachers urged their congregations to vote for Liberals. Air Asquith, speaking at Largoward, replying to questions, said he proposed to pass an Act of Parliament to limit the House,of Lords’ veto to the lifetime of a- single Parliament. He was in favor of manhood suffrage, subject to reasonable restrictions. He added, in reply to a further question, that lie -had a-lways been an opponent of wo\men suffrage, which would not- be good for women or for the State. Lord Charles Beresford has received 3000 cablegrams of congratulation from various parts of the Empire.
