MEETINGS OF COUNCIL COMMIT-

TEES. Several meetings of Borough Council committees were field yesterday afternoon. The Mayor occupied the _ chair, and the only absentee was Cr. Kirk. The question of taking over the meteorological records and instruments in the terms’ of the offer recently made by the Veil. Archdeacon Williams was considered. A committee, consisting of the Mayor, Urs. Darton, Collins, and. Petti© was set up to endeavor to make arrangements for the acceptance of the offer. The Finance Conmiitee considered the intimation from the Cook County Council, of that body’s intention to double the royalty on the stone taken by the Borough Council from the Patutafii quarry. A question of management at the abattoirs was brought up by the Mayor, as to the authority of the manager to discharge any employee if fie thought advisable.. It was decided that the manager should have such power, when lie thought desirable to make a change. The question of the waterworks contract was next dealt with a t- length, and. was finally held over for consideration at a special meeting of the Council, which was held last niglit, the proceedings being reported in another column of this issue.
