Commissioner Hay. of the Salvation Army, intends inaugurating throughout tlm whole of the Australian States and New Zealand a. systematic crusade against drink, gambling, and smoking in any shape or form. The work will be placed ini the hands of the young people in tho Salvation Army, to whom special inducements will bo offered to conduct an energetic campaign. Over 25,000 pledge-cards have been printed l and forwarded to the different Salvation Army oentres, where they will be distributed amongst the “corps. 5 ! Later it is proposed to- supplement- this action by the institution of anti-smoking, drinking, and. gambling leagues on lines already being successfully worked throughout the United States and England, where distinctive badges are considered an essential rule of membership. At present the Salvation Army authorities are busy arranging transfers of “field officers, 55 over four hundred of whom will change stations during the next few weeks. Confidence is tlhe greatest advertiser in the world. This in a large way has contributed to the success that- has attended Grieve, jeweller.
