HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held in the County Council offices last evening. Present: Messrs A.. F. Matthews (chairman), G. Lvsnar, T. Holden, A. Dewing. G. E. Darton, G. Smith, \Y. D. S. MacDonald, and the Hon. Captain Tucker. The house surgeon, Dr. "Wilson, was also in attendance. CORRESPONDENCE. Messrs Atkins and Bacon, architects, "Wellington, wrote applying to be appointed. architects bv the Hospital Trustees. lor the erection of their proposed new hospital. A list of their qualifications and works undertaken by the firm was also forwarded. It was decided to let- the matter stand over till the questions was c onsidered, the secretary to notify the receipt of the letter. The secretary of the Friendly Societies’ Conference forwarded the following resolution, unanimously carried at last meeting of the conference, as follows - "This conference views with satisfaction the .steps that are being taken by the Rcsmta] Trustees tor a new 1 hospital site, and it- promises nil the assistance in its ”-ower, to raise lands for. the erection oi an up-to-date building ynoreon. It was decided to write thank.ng the conference for thei; o.mpt offer oi assistance. Mr. Cyril Buscke, Matawai, wrote stating that he had applied to Dr. Valintinc for a .subsidy towards a medical man in the Motu district, and had been referred to' the local hospital board, as under t-he. new law hospital boards were enabled to make provision for medica] attendance throughout thq district. 4 He asked the assistance of the Trustees, and stated that a doctor was known who would be willing to take the position as resident doctor. The Chairman thought the matter should stand over till the Act came up, and the secretary was instructed to write notifying Mr. Buscke to put the matter before Mr. IV. I). S. MacDonald for him to nut it again before the Trustees. REPORTS. The Treasurer’s report was presented as follows: Receipts, balance last meeting £563 Ss 7d, natients’ fees £IS 2s, rent £4 I Is, total £586 Is 7d; expenditure. accounts passed last meeting £137 4s Sd, since passed £163 3s 2d, total £299 7s lOd ; balance at bank, less cheques paid £586 Is 7d. Estimated income to end of financial year, credit balance of ter paying accounts £67 17s lOd, subsidy claimed £217 10s 2d, balance requisitioned in district board £B4O, interest £24. total £1149 8s. — The report was adopted. The following summary was presented : Patients remaining from last- month 43, admitted since 40, died 3, discharged 41. remaining at date 39. Mr. Dewing, for the Visiting Committee. reported that everything was in good order, and lie had authorised an amount of outside work. The fire apn Nances were also in good order in the front. THE PROPOSED NEW BUILDING. Mr. Lvsnar asked if the committee appointed to put the position before the Trustees, as to the. proposed new hosnital. had any report to make. The Chairman said there was no use discussing the matter -till they had the new Act. Mr. MacDonald said all the points necessary for the Trustees had been passed. Mr. Lysnar said it was not much use inspecting sites if they did not know how they were going to get the land. The. Trustees had inspected several sites, but they were no further forward than before. The meeting then went into committee to discuss the matter regarding tho s’te. and on resuming it was reported that a. special meeting wonkl ho held held on February 2nd, when a committee’s report w'U bo received and the matter further discussed. MISCELLANEOUS. Dr. Wilson reported that more nurses were being engaged at the- hospital, but they had not the full' number yef. In reference to tbe payment of increased salaries, the doctor said the Trustees bad decided to increase the salaries, but nothing further had been done.
Some discussion followed. Mr. Lysnar moved and Mr. Holden seconded tliat the- salaries of the. charge nurses should bo increased to £6O, dating from the now year. The motion was agreed to. Accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting wont into committee to consider the appointment of a secretary, in place of Mr. 15. (1. Matthews, who lias resigned. There were 17 applications, and Mr. H. M. Porter was appointed. ■>
