PORT CHALMERS DOCK.

WORKING SATISFACTORILY

['Unit Bunas Association.l DUNEDIN, Jan. 25

When the steamer Aiaitai came out of dock Tile caisson at the new dock was removed for the first time since the pump was installed in it, and it worked satisfactorily. The inconvenience of the caisson jumping up from its position .before the water in the) dock was level with the water outside has been eliminated. Instead of letting out the water beforehand, it now remains in the caisson until the dock is full: then the pump removes sufficient water to allow the caisson to float for removal. The caisson will cause no further delay, and vessels may enter or leave the dock at any state of the tide as far the fitting or removal of the caisson is concerned.
