FIRES.
TWO FIRES IN WELLINGTON.* 1 Pee Press Association.! Jan. 27. A fire occurred this morning in Hop_ per Street, in premises occupied by Hanson, plumber, and O. and A. Odlin, timber and hardware merchants, as a stable. Tlie fire had a strong hold when the brigade arrived. Four valuable horses perished. The buildings were gutted, a dray damaged beyond repair, and a quantity of harness destroyed. The horses were worth over £l2O. Hanson’s shop, including tools, was absolutely burned. Tlie contents were uninsured, as were Odlin‘s downstairs building property. Odlin’s insurance is £IOO in the Alliance office. Hanson’s loss is £250. A fire also broke out in a six-roomed house in Newtown, owned and occupied by Jas. Saunders. Severe damage was suffered in the kitchen, scullery, bathroom, and dining room. The front portion of the house was affected by heat, smoke, and water. The house was insured for £4OO and the furniture far £2OO.
