GISBORNE NATIVE SINGER ATTAINS SUCCESS.

PERSIAN BRUTALITY
TEHERAN, Jan. 28. The Muvakkar Sultaneh, a member of the late Shah’s entourage, avlio -recently returned to Teheran from Paris, Avas arrested fo r intriguing against the Constitution. He was ordered to he hanged. The rope broke. A second rope was obtained. Muvakkar Avas subjected to blows from the butts of the sbldiers’ rifles. He attempted to climb the rope, until in five minutes he- Avas exhausted and died. The “Times ’ Teheran correspondent protests again*,t the bungling and brutalising spectacle.
LABOR CONFERENCE AND AUSTRALIAN UNIFICATION. (Reoeived January 30, 5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 29. The Labor Conference negatived, by 66 to 46, a resolution in favor of the unification of Australia by the abolition of State Parliaments.
