FATAL FALL FROM. A HORSE

fl’ui; Press Association.l AUCKLAND, Jan. 29. iHorace Launcelot Daley, aged 10, was thrown from a horse at Mongonui, and had his s'kull fractured. He died in twenty minutes. OLD WOMAN’S SUDDEN DEATH. DUNEDIN, Jan. 30. Margaret- Stewart, a single woman 81 years old, died suddenly at Ravens-born-e last night. She was apparently in ,her usual health up till bedtime, but when half undressed she fell on the bed and expired. A SERIOUS FALL. John McPherson, an elderly man residing at Port Chalmers, sustained ser_ ions injuries on Friday night. A few minutes after midnight Ins son heard him mount the stairs leading to the house. Then it sounded as though he stumbled 1 and fell. He rolled down a steep bank, at the bottom of which he fell over a concrete wall, with a drop of five feet on to a footpath. An examination showed that the base of the skull was fractured. McPherson had been in the employ of the Union Company for many vears as a shipwright and' block-maker.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON A

STEAMER

INVERCARGILL, Jan. 30. While engaged moving the. hatches off of the s.s. Kaikoura at the Bluff on Friday night, a man named Albert Edward Tall, 43 years of ago, suffered a serious mishap by which both his legs were fractured. In connection with the removal of the hatches, a beam swings close to tho deck, and this beam unexpectedly moved. Tall fell down and crushed both his legs, each limb sustaining a compound fraoture. The unfortunate man was brought to l the hospital by the first train on Saturday morning. * It is understood that he lias to undergo an operation. • Tall lias been particularly unfortunate. He had not long resumed work after a nasty accident sustained on a. chute in shinning frozen meat. Recently ' ms brother was killed somewhat similarly.
