THE LIBERAL PARTY.
PRESENTATION TO ORGANISER
[Pun Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. There was a large gathering at the Town Hall last night, when Mr. E. Galiichan, organiser for the Liberal Party, was presented by the Prime Minister with a purse of sovereigns on behalf of the Liberals of the Dominion. Sir J. G. Ward s aid that organisation was th c keystone of success. If united assistance had not been given the Government would not have been able to carry many important measures it had carried. Often people said the Government had done nothing for the workers. This lie denied. Ho drew special attention to the advances to settlers and workers schemes, providing half a million a. year at a low rate of interest; also to conciliation and arbitration legislation, which saved the- country much stress and unhappiness. Sir Joseph alluded to the outcry in some Opposition papers respecting shipping commissions paid in London, an allegation being made that £SOOO a year had been wronglv expended. That suggestion was wide of the mjvrlc. This.was the sort of thing critics were trying to belittle the Government with, ignoring the ereat work the Government had done for the country. The Prime Minister spoke in high terms of appreciation of the good work do up for Liberalism by Mr. Gallichan for many years.
