THE RAILWAY TIME =TABLE.
GISBORNE’S INTERESTS. At the conference with the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister of Railways, held; in Napier on Tuesday, in regard to the olteration in the railway time-table, Mr. C. A. deLautour came specially up from South to represent the Gisborne Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce. In conversation with a “Times” representative after his return yesterday morning. Mr. deLautour said that it might be said that the railway matter was satisfactorily settled. The Minister had stated publicly, when referring to the poiition of Gisborne, that whatever alteration would he made this district would he taken into consideration, and any alteration would he in its favor. “The case for Gisborne at the conference,” said Mr. deLautour, “was a fair- certainty of communication at Napier with the mail train, and at Wellington with the express steamer. These were paramount considerations, far outweighing any consideration of a daily connection between Napier and New Plymouth.” “As to the matters of internal dissatisfaction in Hawke’s Bay,” continued Mr. deLautour, “Gisborne did not) presume to express an opinion. There is no doubt there will he a reconstruction, but the Minister was unable to give any details without first consulting the authorities at Wellington.”
