ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION.
SHACKLETON’S OPINION OF PEARY’S DIFFICULTIES.
United Press Association —Copyright (Received February 6, 5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 5. Mr. -Griffiths Taylor, a Sydneyite, and a Cambridge graduate, has been appointed geologist to Captain Scott’s expedition. Sir Ernest Shackle-ton says that Commander Pearys’ starting base will be 200 miles more northerly than Captain Scott’s. He doubts if the Americans can land, because the regions are unknown. The Americans will be fur-
ther handicapped by journeying over quite new ground, whereas Captain Scott will retraverse his own route to within 97 miles of the Pole.
