MAT AW HERO STOCK SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on stock sale held Wednesday, 2nd February as follows: —
Although the yardings were fairly large the sale could he described as a very dragging one, probably due to two factors. .First, most people are holding back for the big ewe sale on the 9th inst., at which the Ngatapa and other well-known station ewes will be offered, and secondly, the class of stock yarded was not good. Sheep.—Our yarding comprised 4,773, of which we sold 3,222, the entry for the most part consisting of cull ewes. The good frame slieep were troubled with age, and the younger sheep were of poor quality. This will account for the quotations which we have to enumerate. Potters sold at Is Gd, cull ewes from 3s Gd to 4s lid, better class lines of ewes up to, say seven years, made from os 9d to 6s 4d. We also sold a line of principally 5-year-olds of a good type on account of Mr. W. C 4. Maclaurin, at 10s. Ewes in forward condition made from 7s to 7s Gd. Lambs were a small entry. Shorn lambs made 3s Id at which they were good buying, whilst lambs in wool made up to 6s Gel; 2-tooth wethers, culls, 7s 7d, fair average lines 9s 9d. We also sold 14 4-tooth Lincoln rams, bred by Messrs. A. and F. McKenzie, at £2 2s. We yarded 180 and sold 142 under fair competition. Cows and calves, which comprised the bulk of the entry made £3 5s to £3 7s Gd. Herd cows £2,15s to £3 3s, calves ISs to 255, yearling steers £2 3s, 18-month steers' £3 2s Gd. 2-year old steers £4 12s, 3-year-olds £5 6s. Our next sale will he held on Wednesday 9th; particulars will be seen in advertisement. As indicated above Ngatapa owes and other well-bred lots will be on offer. As the sale proves likely to be an unusually large one, clients would oblige by having stock forwarded as early as possible, as the yards will be fairly heavily taxed.
