A WORRYING EDUCATION BOARD.
THE OTAGO BOARD’S RESOLUTION.
[Per Prem Association, f INVERCARGILL, Feb. 5. ' At the meeting! of the Education Board Mr. J. 0. Thompson, M.P., moved that the Board take no action in 'regard to the resolution of the Otago Board protesting against the consistent ignoring of the Board and the exclusion of the members from conferences such as that about to be held in Wellington. Mr. Thompson’s motion also contained an expression of disapproval of the Otago Board’s resolution, lie mentioned that the Otago Board had frequently raised difficulties in regard t- •i- r ucational matters, and he argue't that the boards wore not compel'nr. to advise on such matters on which the inspectors were asked to give their opinion. They -were of a purely technical nature. He did not know that 'he Lepartmont- had over ignored ti." SouI thland Board. Mr. AY. McAlister seconded the motion. The, conference, lie said, was evidently one for experts. Mr. Gilchrist considered the Otago Board altogether too fault-finding. Air. Fisher characterised the Otago Board ac being something in the nature of a Scotch terrier, always worrying somebody about something. Air. Crosby Smith jocosely stated that, while the Otago Board~fieroely opposed centralisation it appeared to want to have the Education Department made the Otago Education Board. Education hoards, he" said, had recently been much in recognition in respect to the advisory boards connected jvitli training colleges. The motion was unanimously carried.
