Sir Thomas Shaughnessy. president of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, enjoys the distinction of having become- president of the greatest railway in the world at the age of 46. In addition to controlling 13.000 miles of railway- the company, of which Sir Thomas is the head, has three fleets of steamers, one plying between Liverpool and Canada, another on the Pacific side of the Dominion, and a third on the American lakes. The company also owns and works its own coal mines and lumber trade, and possesses millions of acres of land. Sir Thomas is now in his fifty-sixth year.
