THE TURF.
POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB
The annual race meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club is to take place on the Makaraka course to-day and tomorrow, and some highly’ interesting racing is expected. The first race is to start "at 12.45 p.m. Messrs Vita Bros.’ band is to play at the course on both days. The catering has been entrusted to the Gisborne Co-operative Bakery Co. Special trains are to leave town at noon and 1 p.m., and the afternoon train is to leave at 5.30 p.m. After the races two trains will leave Makaraka, one for town and the other for the country.
EGMONT RACING CLUB MEETING

The Egmont Racing Club’s summer meeting was held to-day in fine weather and with a good attendance. The totalisator investments were £6866, as against £7306 on the corresponding day last year. Twelve bookmakers were licensed. The following are the results :
Flying Handicap 6 furlongs.—Clemora 1, North East 2, Sandstream 3. Also started: Golden Eagle, Koran, Lethean, and Nicotine. Won by half-a-lenth. Time, lmin dosec. Meremcre Hack Flat Handicap, 5 furlongs.—Teroti 1, Kina 2, Red Wing 3. Also started: Mnlga Bill, Toanga, Timothy, True Shot, Lady Heroine, Contralto, Valentine, Billington, Whana, Miss Park, Emblem, Clorinda, Lady Loo, Speedy Meg, and St. Eventon. Won by half-a-length. Time, lmin 3 4-ssec.
Whareroa Hurdles, 1-i miles.—Playmate 1, Mt. Cook 2, Ruemac 3. Also started: Golden Glow. Won by two lengths. Time, 2min 48 3-ssec. Oliawe Hack Hurdles, 1-1 miles.— Maggie Paul 1, Prophet 2, Kauroa 3. Also started': Waione, Anemone, Taupo, Clemency, and Nero. Won by three lengths. Time, 2min 46 l-ssec. Ladies’ Purse Hack Handicap, 1 mile.—Waiariri 1, Howler 2, Himitangi 3. Also started : Master Lethe, Makahau, Handsome Paul, Beacon, Red Star, and Drift. Won by a length. Time, lmin 48 2-ssec. Egmont Cup, 1-1 miles.—Milan 1, Tiptoe 2, Sir Prize 3. Also started: Swimming Belt, Bismarck, and Astraea. Tiptoe and Bismarck, led from a good start. Tiptoe. Sir Prize, and Milan were ahead in the home run, and Milan jumped to the front and won by a head. Time, 2min 26sec. Hawcra Stakes, 7 furlongs.—Lord iSoult 1, Polymorphous 2, Prancer 3. Also started: Ohlikoff and Patriotic. Won by a length. Time, lmin 15 3-5 sec.
Waipapa Hack Flat Handicap, 7 furlongs.—Red Wing 1, Perolina 2, Starboard* 3. Also started: King’s Prize, Chase Mab, Paul, Bay Paul, Waimoko, Lady Lupin, Silva, Queen’s Prize, and The Reiver. Won by a short head. Time, lmin 30 4-ssec.
EGMONT ACCEPTANCES. HAWERA, Feb. 9.
