THE PROPOSED VISIT OF AN ENGLISH TEAM. .
TPer Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 9. At a meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association to-night, it was reported, in regard to the proposed tour of the English team, that replies had been received from associations whose guarantees total £SOO, in favor of the tour, whilst in respect of three other Associations the replies were problematical The amount of their guarantees was £l5O. The chairman, Mr. E. Nordon, stated that £SOO would be ample to finance the tour. In lengthy remarks, regarding the attitude of the Canterbury Association, which holds that the time is. inopportune for the visit, the chairman said that that was more or less ah insult to the management committee of the New Zealand Association. At the annual meeting, when it was decided to take preliminary steps in connection with the tour, Canterbury’s delegates voted in favor of the motion, and the foolish people who constituted the executive, of the Canterbury Association were stultifying themselves by their present attitude. As to the statement that the English team could not teach the local men much, it seemed to him altogether too ridiculous for consideration. It was decided to communicate with Mr. Collins, secretary of the English Association, to ascertain how matters are progressing at his end, and to impress on him the necessity for sending the strongest possible team to New Zealand.
