A MOUNT EDEN BURGLARY
rpi n Press Association*. | 1 AUCKLAND, Feb 10 The residence of William Elliott, Mount Eden, was broken into by burglars .011 Tuesday night. Jewellery, ■alee,. ware, and cash to the. value 01 £l4O were stolen from an upstairs room. Air and Airs. Elliott were out at the time, and had left a door and window open.
A FALSE INV DICE. At the Police Court, Hugh Douglas Guthrie, an indent- agent with; headquarters at Dunedin, was charged that on November 23, at Dunedin, he made a declaration of goods ujiOn a false invoice. The defendant admitted the offence, but satisfied the Court that though lie was supplier] with invoices by the English firm, they were not sent at his request. The law admits no such excuse, but the Cougbt thought the case would be met by a minimum penalty of £25.
CONGREG ALTON A L UN lON. The opening meetings of the Congregational Union of New* Zealand took place to-day, over SO delegates from various parts of the Dominion being present. The chairman (Air. A. Al. Lewis), in the course of his address, said that there was something about the Anglican service that was lacking in their own. He was or opinion thev could introduce a general confession of responses with good results. It would greatly help if the kneeling posture were adopted during prayer.
A AIISSING MAX. TAIHAPE, Feb. 10. A colored man, George A\ ard. a teacher of boxing, well known in the district, was seen yesterday behaving in a wild manner in the bed of a stream at Ohutu. He was sparring at the water, and making wild, plunges. Being missed, the police were unformed. Two constables searched the stream till dark, the result being fruitless. They coutinue the search. It is feared the man became temporarily deranged. Owing to the deep pools and difficulty of access, doubts are felt as to the success of the search.
WANGANUI TRAMWAY EXTENSION.
WANGANUI, Feb. 10. At a conference last night between representatives of the AA'anganui and AYanganui East Borough Councils, a basis of agreement was arrived at for submission to the respective ratepayer: in connection with a proposed, second bridge, across the river, and an extension of the tramway service to the overriver* suburb.
XEAY ZEALAND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION. AYELLIXGTOX, Feb. 10. Owing to the Shops and Offices Act prohibiting the employment- of assistants after 6 p.m., the New Zealand Industrial Exhibition, proposed to be held in May and June trill probably he postponed for a few weeks until Parliament, meets and passes special legislation +;> get over the difficulty. Ine Hon. J. A. Millar yesterdav told a deputation there was no other course but this open.

CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 10. . A large number of spurious coins are in circulation in Christchurch. One big firm is reported to have been victimised to the extent of £l3 in one day The Tramway Board also suffered to some extent.
