Lord Rosebery, Lord Rothschild, and other executors of Lucy Cohen’s will, and Mr Lucas, executor of Anna Cohen’s will, sued Prank Bradley, formerly in Cohen’s employ as butler and afterwards as their confidential agent, to recover £60,000. Defendant pleaded that the money was received as gifts.
DISSATISFIED MINERS. Owing to Mr Burt’s advice to the Northumberland miners regarding eight hours, the Burrandon Lodge has resolved that Mr Burt be asked to resign the secretaryship.
THE VICEROYALTY OF INDIA. The “Times” states that Lord Kitchener will only be appointed as Viceroy of India if the situation assumes a dangerous aspect; otherwise Lord Minto will be succeeded by a civilian.
INFLUENZA AT THE OSBORNE COLLEGE.
The Osborne Naval College has been closed. Two hundred out of 500 cadets including Prince Albert of Wales, are suffering from pneumonia.

COST OF LIVING IN THE UNITED STATES.
WASHINGTON, Feb. 10
The Senate has appointed a committee of seven to investigate the causes of the higher cost of living. It is expected the House of Representatives will conduct an independent inquiry.
THE MINIMUM TARIFF. President Taft lias granted the minimum tariff to Argentine. Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico.
PEARY MADE REAR-ADMIRAL. The Senate has passed a Bill making Commander Peary a Rear-Admiral. The Bill will undoubtedly pass the House of Representatives.
AN AMERICAN POISONING CASE
NEW YORK. Feb. 10. The jury found that Colonel Swope died of strychnine which was contained in a capsule prescribed by Dr. Hyde, but whether there was felinous intent they were unable to say. [Colonel Swope was a millionaire philanthropist, of Kansas City. Dr. Hyde, who is married to the colonel’s niece, sued the executor for slanderously accusing him of poisoning Swope. A former cable message stated that the case took a sensational turn when it was announced that- a chemical analysis showed the latter’s death to have resulted from strychnine poisoning.]
THE AMERICAN ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
(Received February 11, 10.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 11. Captain Bartlett, who commanded the Roosevelt in Peary’s last expedition, leads the American Antarctic expedition.
