Evidence given in the Ditnedin Magistrate’s Court recently in connection -vvitb a suit to recover commission for the sale of house property at llavensbourne showed incidentally that money won in Tattersall’s sweeps is not always misused. Out of such sudden .riches one of the witnesses, a laboring man, had, it was stated, purchased the property forming the subject of litigation for £550, and, to the. astonishment of the vendor, agents, and lawyers concerned, paid the whole amount down in one sum. On the strength of liis win the lucky man had increased his fortune by taking a wife.
