ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION.

DR. CHARCOT’S ACHIEVEMENTS.

United Press Association —Copyright (Received February lb, 9.50 p.m.)' PARIS, Feb. lb.

Dr. Charcot completed the map to Adelaide Island, and surveyed new land, 120 miles long, before wintering at Petermann Island. During the second Antarctic summer he explored the South Shetlands, and then wept to South Alexander the First Land. Early in the voyage collisions with icebergs caused the vessel to leak. It was impossible to repair her, and two tons of water an hour entered, necessitating pumping throughout the voyage. The crew .suffered from scurvy and heart trouble.
