TURANGANUI CLUB

There, was a good muster -of players on the Turanganui Club’s green yesterday afternoon, when great interest .vas taken in the games, played. The chief attractions were hi game in lue Preside t’s Fours and one in the Beimctu Cup competition. The results were:

—President’s Fours.— Dan Barry, G. Alatthewson, AV. H. Douglas, R. A'lcAVhirter (skip) (5 points) 17 beat R- 0. Skeet, V. Hooper, Al. A. Neill, A. Sawyer (skip) (2 points) 16. — This game, a continuation of the first round, had been, started a week or so previously, and had been adjourned on the 16th head, when the scores stood 12 all. On tho 17th and 18th heads Sawyer’s team got in a single, and a two." On the 19th head Sawyer lay five, but Douglas with a lovely draw carried the. jack and lay.one, a position which the skips did not alter.. On the 20th head the first bowl put down by Barry was the shot, and was unaltered. Tlius these two heads went to McWhirter, the scoring then showing Sawyer 15, AlcWhirter 14. On the final head

Matthewson drew a splendid shot, but Neill took the jack away and lay a nice one. Nothing, was changed, and one went to Sawyer, the final head being: Sawyer 16, McWhirter 14. The latter receiving a handicap of three points thus won by one point. , The- first round of this competition will, be completed to-morrow afternoon, when the rinks skipped by Colley and Nasmith, senr., will meet. ® —Bennett Cup.—

J. J. Martin 23 beat 0. J. Bennett 21.—1 n the early stages of the game Martin ran completely away from his opponent, being 13 to 1 on the 7th head, 16 to 8 on the 11th head, and 20 to 10 on the 14th head. Bennett then made a splendid recovery, and to such effect that lie. mad o matters even on th© 20th Ulead, with 21 points each. On the- final head Martin got in two shots' and won by that number. •
