NAPIER WOOL SALES

It is anticipated that the offerings at Thursday’s wool sale will total 6000 bales. This constitutes a record for the February sales in Napier.

WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

The fourth wool sale of the season was held to-day, and continued tonight. The sale was very successful, and the prices obtained compare favorably with, and in some instances were better than, those ruling at the January sales. Generally speaking, however, and having regard to quality, prices were just about level with those of last month. The catalogues totalled 16,530 bales, nearly all of which was sold. There was a representative attendance of English, foreign, and local buyers, and bidding was brisk throngout. . The bulk of the wools offering were sold in the neighborhood of Ski per lb. A feature of the sale was the manner in which lambs’ wool was competed for. A good deal < f this class was offered, and as much as 13d was obtained, the average being 12d to 12:fd. Lambs’ wool was all eagerly sought for, some buyers having practically no limits for it. Indeed, there was not one neglected line in the whole catalogue. In one or two instances growers’ ideas of value did not coincide with those of buyers, one line of crossbreds being passed in at 13/,cl. Prices averaged as follows:—Merino: Good lOd to lO.fd, medium 9.1(1 to 9Ad inferior BAd to SI cl; ha If bred : good HAd to 13)d. medium lOd to 10|[d, inferior 9d to 9A ; fine crossbred : good 10:1(1 to 10Id, medium 9Ad to 10(1. inferior 9d to 9:1 d : medium and coarse crossbred: good 9Ad to 10d, medium 9d to 9Ad, inferior S)d to Sid; pieces: good" 7cl to 10jd, medium old to 6d, inferior 4Jd to 4Icl; locks, 3d to 4Ad; lambs: good to superior llAd to 13d medium 10ci to 11c*’, inferior and seedy 6Acl to BAd.
