OBJECT TO SUNDAY LABOR

A meeting of the executive of the butter and creamery and cheese factories employees was held last night. Details of the convention and new demands to bo /presented to the Arbitration Court were approved. The salient features of the new demand are a reduction of Fours' of 'working in butter factories to 52 per week in the season, and 44 in winter; cheese factories, a reduction of hours per week from 70 to GO, together) with a halfholiday weekly in butter factories. The reduction of hours in the case of cheese workers includes provision for a six day week. Another proposed important alteration is with regard to living accommodation. The new proposal fixes the standard wage higher, hut is made subject to a reduction for rent in the case of married men. The wages range to £2 5s for assistants to £3 os for heads of departments. In. regard to creamery managers, the most important change proposed is the provision for cartage of cream, etc., which is to be let by tender and. not included in tlie manager’s ordinary work. An attempt is being made already to minimise Sunday labor. The matter comes before the Arbitration Court about June, but is open to a conference in the meantime.
