Sir Hiram Maxim, director of Vivkers, Son, and Maxim, who has bee., applying his attention to the solving of the problem of aerial flight, lias built a bi-plane 44 feet long, and having a. 80 horse-power engine, weighing 220 pounds, with a. gyroscope regulator. The biplane carries a driver and two passengers.
BRITAIN READY FOR PEACE. Sir Edward Grey, in reply to questions on behalf of the Peace Society, said the Government was willing to enter into negotiations for a reduction of armaments if other Powers were ready to respond. .

Lupta has been hanged for the assassination of the Inspector of Police at Calcutta.
The High Court at Calcutta sentenced the two Alipore bomb conspirators to 5 and 7 years’ imprisonment respectively.
